We finally got to go see our first great grandbaby yesterday. The room was very dark, so the lighting isn't good, and the focus isn't much better. I do like some of the compositions, like this one. That's my hand on his head.
Another good composition with bad focus. This one is his hand with his mother's hand.
I finally get one in focus, and the compostition is bad! I think I need to check my camera lens, too. My four year old grandson was using my camera yesterday morning. Look like he might have left a finger print!
We have some good news! Our granddaughter had a baby boy this morning, so now we are great grandparents. It was a day for four firsts. Our first great grandchild, our daughter's first grand child, our granddaugher's first child, and the new baby himself. Everyone is doing great. His first name is Gustavo, but they are going to call him Gus. His little uncle who is 2 calls him Baby Goose cause him can't say Gus. Hope to have pictures of him by tomorrow.
Saturday was the only time I had to take any pictures, so I'm limited to shots of my new grandson, Luke. He was 6 days old in these shots. All where edited with Microsoft Picture It! Premium 10.
Here is an original taken in black and white. Only editing was resizing.
Same black and white photo with antique filter applied.
Same shot with soft edges. I like this one best.
This one was taken in black and white with flash on. I did crop it and increase the contrast.
Here's the same pose taken in color in the auto mode and changed to black and white with photo editing program. I like the one taken in black and white better. The details are much sharper.
Here's my favorite color shot, unedited.
And here's my favorite edited shot. I took #032, changed it to black and white, then changed it to a negative, then applied a gradual transparency. I like the soft translucent look, like it is floating in space.
Just a quickie to show you my new grandson and a little bit of editing that I did. It's way past my bedtime and I have to work tomorrow (darn!), so you will just have to wait for more pics.
Here's Luke Preston at six days old. He weighed 7 lbs 14 oz when he was born, so he is pretty good size. All the light in the picture is from the flash on my camera. He was in a fairly dark room.
Here's what I came up with with just a little bit of editing. I rather like it! It looks more fragile. I think I will enter these two in the Photo Quest this week. Hope I have time to do some more editing tomorrow after I get home from work.
It was snowing today when I got off work. I already had an inch on my car, but no ice, thank goodness. We had gotten about half an inch over night, so it just took me a few minutes longer than usual to get to work this morning. It took an hour to drive home tonight, 25 miles. Everyone was driving slow. At least it was still light, although it was too cloudy for the sun to shine.
I'm still trying to catch up on my laundry, etc. I finally got my suitcase unpacked tonight. I still have to pay some bills, etc, then I need to get to bed. I have to be at work by 7:00 again in the morning.
We are really not very busy right now. Don't know if anyone will buy cakes or cupcakes for the Super Bowl on Sunday. At least I don't have to work on Sunday, so I can watch the game. We may go see our thirteenth grandchild, a little boy who was born yesterday. We might have gone tonight, but with the weather forecast for more snow, we decided to wait. Luke Preston weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and was 21 inches long. Can't wait to see him and give him a big hug.
When I started working at Wal-Mart, we had 6 people in the cake department. Now we are down to 3, with only one being full time. There are two others who only work on weekends, which is okay, because Saturday and Sunday are the busiest days of the week. I am getting some weekends off now, which I like, especially Sunday.
We have been working on cupcakes and heart shaped cakes for Valentine's Day. We are putting them in the freezer until it is time to get them out. I did two cases of cupcakes yesterday, and several heart cakes. But today, I made cupcakes and sheet cakes to go in the cake case. After lunch, I did more heart cakes. Yesterday, I used the design ideas that came with the cakes, but today, I just did whatever I felt like. It will be interesting to see which sells best. Guess I'd better do more cupcakes tomorrow. We sold a lot of cupcakes for the other holidays so it will be interesting to see what happens for Valentine's Day. Does anyone buy a cake instead of flowers? I did get one order today for cupcakes with Valentine's Day decorations. Guess we will see.
I came down to the city yesterday because my city baby is sick again. He doesn't even want his grammy this time. I haven't taken any pictures so this one is from last month. I have tried growing these in the country, but haven't had much success. May have to try again.
My interview at the hospital is this afternoon. Then I will probably go home. Have to stop somewhere and look for some shutters. And pick up a few groceries.
Talked to hubby this morning. He said it is raining again. That is very unusual for us in July. As a general rule, we get very little rain in July. Bet I will have to pick beans and zucchini when I get home. Can't wait to work on the homespun quilt!
Here's a couple of shots of my city baby's curly red hair. He is 11 months old now. I took these late yesterday afternoon and was finally able to load them on the computer this afternoon.
I got a few of my flower shots loaded, too. I'll try to post them tomorrow. I need to shut my eyes for a few minutes in case the baby doesn't sleep any better tonight than he did last night. He went to bed at 9:00 and slept fine until 12:30, but then he was awake a lot. He has only slept through the night two or three times since he was born! He doesn't suck his thumb, or take a pacifier, or have a lovey, so he doesn't have any way to calm himself once he wakes up. He woke up at 6:30 this morning and was already asleep for his morning nap by 8:30. The girls are going to summer school, so we still have to get up in the morning. Their windows are on the east side of the house, so they don't have any trouble getting up in the summer. In the winter when it is still dark, they have a hard time.
It's a cool rainy day here in the country. I haven't been outside with my camera yet, but I wanted to share these pictures of my city baby.
Here he is looking to see if there is anything for lunch.
When he's doing something he isn't supposed to be doing, like climbing the stairs, he always looks around to see if anyone is watching.
He had to get a better look! He is 10 months old now, and all boy. He loves to climb. He can walk, but still crawls on all fours most of the time.
These are the only pictures I was able to take of him while I was there. I did sneak out one morning and take the flower pictures while he was sleeping. Click on the flower pictures to see the rain drops, especially on the second one. Don't know why the third one didn't load. It was dark green leaves with rain drops.
I found out on Wednesday that my old job is available again, so I picked up an application. Need to get it filled out. I've really enjoyed being "retired" this year, but it doesn't pay the bills, especially the health insurance. Can't ignore the facts of life!
Enjoy your holiday weekend!
Hi, Everyone! Sorry if I have missed your posts the past few days. My city baby had a virus and needed someone to hold him almost all the time. I got to come home late this afternoon. As soon as I could, I went out with my camera. If you click on any of the pink iris pictures, you can see them better. They are so pretty this year. It was overcast with just a hint of filtered light. I would like to get some shots with early morning light, too.
These blue flowers are blooming, too. Does anyone know what they are? If you blow this one up, there is a tiny bug in the center. I'm going to have to get a flower book! I know I planted a package of wildflower seed last year, and this one came back from seed, although I don't remember it blooming last year. Maybe it is one of the ones that doesn't bloom until the second year. The color looks pretty true on my moniter. It is a luscious blue.
I need to do some more computer work, then get to bed. So much baby holding wore me out!
Sorry I have been away so long! I went to the city last Friday, and if I ever did have a minute to look at the computer, the computer wouldn't work! Very frustrating.
Had a busy weekend. Took the baby to a First Communion for a nephew's daughter. He was good, but it wore me out carrying him around. He has asleep when I got to the school/church, so I left him in his car seat, which he is too big for, and almost impossible to carry, especially with his stuff and mine. By the time I bumped him around getting to the door, he was awake anyway! He did fall asleep again on our way to the nephew's house, and slept while we ate, which was nice.
On Sunday, my daughter needed to sleep, so I took everyone, including the neighbor girl who had spent the night, to Mass, then to Krispy Kreem for doughnuts. Then we took the long way home through a state park that has a population of elk. It was weird to see them out in the woods so close to the city. The girls were more excited about the geese and a couple of ducks they saw on the lake. It was really nice. It felt like we were a million miles away from the city.
I wanted the girls to go outside when we got home, but they wanted to play Wii. Of course they woke up their mom, then went outside. They played for awhile, then I took the three of them, plus three neighbors, plus the baby shopping for flip-flops. Two of the neighbors are older, and were actually a big help. The girls all got sunglasses and sandals, and we got little shoes for the baby. Stopped and picked up supper on the way home. All that running around did me in!
I had planned to come home yesterday morning as soon as the girls left for school, but it was almost 5:00 before I got on the road. Only made a couple of stops, but it was still 8:30 by the time I got home. Too late to start on anything, so I just watched the basketball game.
Wanted to catch up on the computer yesterday morning, but it was raining and thundering, and I was afraid of lightening. The least little bit of lightening will take out my modem in a heartbeat. So I worked on a table runner instead, and got it finished last night. I really like the way it turned out. I have tried three times to get the picture to load, but it just won't do it, so I finally gave up. I'll have to post it later.
I bought some chenille at Wal-Mart on Monday, and tried to use it in a baby lovie last night, but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped. I tried another idea this morning, but I'm not sure about it either. This may require some more thought.
I'm going to try to go out and do some yard work before the next big rain storm tomorrow. I'll try to post some pictures when I come back in.
