No new pictures today, so I'll share a recipe instead. Don't really know what I did today, except take a nap this afternoon. I did work on my raggy knitted place mats a little bit, but I don't really have anything else to show that I was alive today! I did get some pictures sent to Snapfish and two sets of prints ordered, and some of the pictures deleted from my computer. That doesn't sound like much, but as slow as my computer is, it takes time to do that sort of thing. I did add some more pictures to my last Etsy listing, and I edited another listing. I had added a border of one of the lovies I had made, so I added a new set of pictures. I did do some work on the counted cross stitch project I have up here by the computer, and solved another Sudoku puzzle.
Here's my recipe for the day. I found it by doing a recipe search on Google, but it is from Cooks.com. I tried it several weeks ago because I wanted to make these cookies from camp this summer and I didn't have a recipe. It is for No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies. They are really easy to make, and absolutely impossible to stop eating!
NO BAKE CHOCOLATE OATMEAL COOKIES
from Cook's.com
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups rolled oats
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix first four ingredients in large heavy bottom saucepan and bring to a boil.
Cook for three minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat.
Add the vanilla, peanut butter, and oats; mix well.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper.
Cool until firm.
Makes about 4 dozen small cookies.
Baby came with me this evening when I went out to take pictures for this week's Photo Quest. This picture didn't make the cut for the contest, but I had to share it anyway.
Didn't do any quilting today. Had a very nice visit with two of our sons and their families. We had sandwiches for lunch and ham for dinner, so I didn't wear myself out cooking all day.
I started cleaning up some of the pictures I have saved on my computer. I am running out of room! I had to delete a bunch of files just so I could get my pictures off the camera. Need to do more deleting. Or get more storage.
Time for bed, but I want to try to send some pictures to Snapfish. Wish it didn't take so long to send them.
Here's a picture of "Papa" with his one year old twins. Their birthday was April 26th. We went to their house yesterday for their birthday party. We also celebrated their big brother's birthday; he will be three next Sunday. It was rather cool, but most of the kids went outside to play. The babies wanted to go out, too, but we kept them entertained in the house. They are wearing outfits that their other grandma made for them. Very cute!
Here's the white picket fence that we all have been working on for a couple of weeks now. It really looks nice, and it is nice to know that the little kids can go out to play and will stay in the yard. The landscaping is the next big project. They were working on the gates today. They want a small walk thru gate on each side of the house, plus a large gate that you can drive thru on the garage side.
It has been beautiful here today. I went out and hoed my radishes again. There is a little bit of spinach coming out, but very little. No sign of the beans or beets. I used old seed, so may have to replant.
We had frost again this morning. It was 34 degrees when I got up. I took a chance and didn't bring my plants in last night. It looks like they all survived.
I added a border to the yellow and white baby blanket this afternoon. It didn't look quite finished. I took some more pictures, so now I need to edit my Etsy listing.
I started loading some of my pictures from yesterday up to Snapfish, but it takes 6 minutes for each picture to load. Wish my computer was faster! Guess I should be thankful to have a computer at all.
Here's the place mats that I started on last week. I was in the kitchen most of yesterday afternoon. I made blueberry muffins, no bake chocolate cookies, and stir-fry. Then I finished these place mats. The homespun strips are pieced to a piece of Warm and Natural batting. Then I added a muslin backing before rag quilted the quilted patchwork hearts. Then I hand quilted the strips before adding the rag quilted "border". The reverse side looks nice, too. Take a look on Etsy.
I spent most of today trying to get my computer running again. My hard drive was so full that it wouldn't run any programs or let me load pictures, or anything. I did finish one of the little dresses I was making for the twins. I'll post a picture tomorrow. I also got out my menus that I am planning for camp. Last year I volunteered to spend a week helping in the kitchen at a camp for kids with cancer. I will need to get the food ordered in a couple of weeks. Camp is the first week of June.
We are supposed to get frost tonight. I moved most of my plants back inside already. Still have one planter to go. I have little radishes in the garden, but a little frost won't hurt them.
It was cool this morning, and a bit windy, but not bad. We lucked out again yesterday - no bad storms. We did get some more rain, and the biggest hail I've seen in a long time, but it didn't last long. The strangest thing was the two barn swallows who came up during the hail and were hanging onto the screens on our porch. My camera was too far away for me to get a picture.
Went to do some shopping this morning. Stopped by our sons house to wish his twins a happy first birthday, but they were taking a nap, so we took his almost 3 year old shopping with us. He was very good; we had to stop six different places. At Wal-Mart, he sat on the bench at the front of the store with "pa-pa". I wanted to buy some more flannel and batting a Wal-Mart, but the fabric department lady wasn't there the first time I went by, and by the time I came back, the sub lady was swamped and upset about the whole deal, so I just put my stuff back on the shelf.
I started working on a set of place mats yesterday that are multi-media, but I think they are going to be nice. I strip pieced homespun onto a batting base, stitched on a backing around the edges, machine appliqued patchwork hearts, then hand quilted along the strips. The final touch is a rag quilted "border". I have one finished, and about half of the strips sewn down on the second one.
I've started another project. I like to have something up here by my computer because it is so slow. I was cleaning off my sewing table one day and found a couple of counted cross stitch projects from who knows when, so I'm working on one of them. I know they aren't very creative, but I like the fact that they are square and perfect!
Sorry I have been away so long! I went to the city last Friday, and if I ever did have a minute to look at the computer, the computer wouldn't work! Very frustrating.
Had a busy weekend. Took the baby to a First Communion for a nephew's daughter. He was good, but it wore me out carrying him around. He has asleep when I got to the school/church, so I left him in his car seat, which he is too big for, and almost impossible to carry, especially with his stuff and mine. By the time I bumped him around getting to the door, he was awake anyway! He did fall asleep again on our way to the nephew's house, and slept while we ate, which was nice.
On Sunday, my daughter needed to sleep, so I took everyone, including the neighbor girl who had spent the night, to Mass, then to Krispy Kreem for doughnuts. Then we took the long way home through a state park that has a population of elk. It was weird to see them out in the woods so close to the city. The girls were more excited about the geese and a couple of ducks they saw on the lake. It was really nice. It felt like we were a million miles away from the city.
I wanted the girls to go outside when we got home, but they wanted to play Wii. Of course they woke up their mom, then went outside. They played for awhile, then I took the three of them, plus three neighbors, plus the baby shopping for flip-flops. Two of the neighbors are older, and were actually a big help. The girls all got sunglasses and sandals, and we got little shoes for the baby. Stopped and picked up supper on the way home. All that running around did me in!
I had planned to come home yesterday morning as soon as the girls left for school, but it was almost 5:00 before I got on the road. Only made a couple of stops, but it was still 8:30 by the time I got home. Too late to start on anything, so I just watched the basketball game.
Wanted to catch up on the computer yesterday morning, but it was raining and thundering, and I was afraid of lightening. The least little bit of lightening will take out my modem in a heartbeat. So I worked on a table runner instead, and got it finished last night. I really like the way it turned out. I have tried three times to get the picture to load, but it just won't do it, so I finally gave up. I'll have to post it later.
I bought some chenille at Wal-Mart on Monday, and tried to use it in a baby lovie last night, but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped. I tried another idea this morning, but I'm not sure about it either. This may require some more thought.
I'm going to try to go out and do some yard work before the next big rain storm tomorrow. I'll try to post some pictures when I come back in.
Here is the flannel baby lovie that I listed on Etsy last night. I didn't take forever to load my pictures this time. It is alternating squares of white and pink gingham squares. The backing is alternating white and multi colored dots on white. I didn't use any batting so the lovie would be soft and easy to carry.
I did a lot of computer work yesterday. I had bills to pay, checkbooks to balance, info to download, and on and on. I got most of it done. I had a couple of bills to pay yet tonight that I wanted to pay online, but I finally gave up and wrote out checks while this picture was loading.
I went to my sewing room last night with a plan to make something out of some fabric I have that is the same color as red bud blossums, but I got side tracked by some other fabric and started something else instead. Does anyone else let their fabric tell them what to do?
Busy day today, but I feel like I accomplished quite a bit. I cut out and started working on a spring wall hanging. It has an appliqued center square surrounded by rag quilted squares. I like the way it is coming together.
I stopped this afternoon to make cookies. I know. I can't remember the last time I made cookies. I tried to double a recipe that I had made once or twice before. I had a hard time getting enough liquid worked in for them to stick together. They taste a lot like the Girl Scout peanut butter oatmeal cookies.
Then our son called and said they were coming out. I hadn't seen them for a month or so, so it was nice that they were coming. I had planned to make Not Stuffed Peppers for dinner, but by the time I finished with the cookies, it was getting late, so I went with Plan B. Everything turned out good, and we enjoyed playing with the kids (they have three), until it got to be bedtime, then everyone suddenly got crabby.
I came up to the computer and was able to copy a document off a web site into a Works document, edit the document to get it formatted right again, and even make a separate spreadsheet and edit it into the document. It may not sound like much to you computer experts, but I have never done anything like that before. Everything I know about the computer I picked up on my own, mostly by trial and error.
Bedtime now. Especially since we will lose an hour of sleep tonight. Later!

The laptop is working this morning, so I did some more research about health insurance. Looks like we will be able to find some thing. eHealthInsurance gave me several quotes. I didn't check to see about doctors, etc. I was just happy that it looks like we may have a choice. Looks like we may have to trade a SS check for insurance, but that is about what I was working for anyway. Should get to go back to the country tomorrow. Can't wait to do some more quilting! I didn't have a chance to work on my knitting last night. The baby was up until 11:00!
The sun is shining here, and it's not too cold. May have to go out and do a little shopping. It would be good to get out of the house. I haven't been out since Monday!
