I worked by myself on Monday and Tuesday of this week, but didn't have time to be very creative. I did do this cake, which I was rather proud of.
I'm finally digging out from under the pile of paperwork that has accumulated on my desk. I still have a way to go, but at least it is all on my desk now and not spilling over onto the floor. I think I have most of the bills paid. Still need to check my bank balances. I had received an Etsy order back in October, but didn't have time to get it shipped until today. I was totally out of practice. I hadn't received any orders in some time. I've been too busy to make any new things and get them listed. I'm still working on dresses for my granddaughter.
I'm also sending a lot more time fixing food than I usually do. I haven't found much good information on the web about soft food diets, but I did find a good site today about making homemade baby food. I've been afraid to try anything with meat in it. I'm going to give it a try today and see how it goes. My handheld blender has been a big help. I'm going to try to add a little ham to some navy bean soup. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all your prayers. If you think of any good ideas for soft food, let me know. If we can keep body and soul together without surgery, that is the way we are leaning now. He will still have a test on Monday, and a consult with his doctor on Wednesday.
I wanted to take pictures of my cakes for this quest, but since I make quilted place mats to sell on Etsy, and I have a set that needs to be listed, I just had to do my own commercial for my own product. Coming to Etsy soon!
I may change the saturation a little bit before I post this on Etsy. It is a bit over-exposed in the center.
I did a bit of editing on this close up.
No editing on this one. The sun had gone behind a cloud, so I still have the lighter center of attention, but it isn't washed out like the first one is.
Although it doesn't make any difference. I've been home for two days. Now I have to work both days over the weekend.
Here is my very first traditionally quilted table runner! I had the off white and tan squares left over from another project, and I've had little pieces of the patchwork fabric laying around for a long time. I do like the dark red border and the red check binding. I will try to get it listed on Etsy tonight.
I'm working on another project today. Someone at work wants something for her father who lives Navy stuff, so I'm making a pillow with two different Navy fabrics. I have one side done, and now I'm working on the other side. I want to make it so that you can use it on either side.
It was cold here this morning, 17 I think. It isn't too bad out now, about 30. I went out and took a few pictures since the sun came out. Will post some later. Gotta put another log on the fire and try to finish my pillow.
I had to work today, so haven't done anything at home. It was cloudy most of the day, but much warmer than yesterday.
Here's the table runner that I finished last week. I already had the all the squares cut out except the plaid ones. I am seriously going to try to use some of my stash before I buy new fabric! I am going to try to get this runner listed on Etsy tonight.
I should do so quilting tonight, but I'll probably run out of steam before I get around to it. I have to be at work again tomorrow at 7:00 am.
There were only two of us today, so we mostly worked on orders. I did do a few cookies, but didn't try to get too creative. Hope I have more play time tomorrow!
I finally finished the Moda friends and flowers table runner that I have been working on for almost a month! I was a special order from S.T., who wanted another Moda friends and flowers to go with one she had purchased earlier. I was able to find one Friends and Flowers collection on eBay so I could make this runner. It really turned out nice. Thanks, S.T.!
I worked on the runner all day today, so no pictures of anything else. I did sell two more items on Etsy today, so it was a good day. I need to get busy making things for Christmas. I think it is already too late for fall things. I might make one or two if I have the fabric already. I'll have to take inventory!
I did get my computer table cleaned off. It was getting stacked pretty high, and I payed bills and balanced both check books.
We had half an inch of rain last night, and a little bit more late this afternoon, so I didn't have to water anything. It is going to be much cooler this week. I need to get some plants moved back inside.
May not happen for awhile. I work every day for the next five days, so don't panic if you don't hear from me for a few days. Have a good week, everyone!
Here's my latest quilted project - a little homespun handquilted angel. Her wings, face, and feet are handquilted. Her body and arms are machine quilted. She has French knot eyes and blushy cheeks and a perky homespun bow in her curly hair. I found this pattern while I was looking for a crochet hook this week, so I decided to make one. I may try to make some more, but I need more fusible interfacing. She is available on Etsy.
I need to go cook some fresh green beans and zucchini for lunch. Later!
Welcome to July, everyone! Here is the best of my series of hummingbird shots from yesterday. I'm going to have to try to get a little bit closer. I probably need to wait until later in the day so there isn't so much contrast with the bright background. They were really active when I took this shot. They drink 3/4 cup of sugar water every day. I had to refill the feeder before dark last night.
This small table runner is my latest project using Moda fabrics. I like the idea of using the colors around the edges with the white squares in the center. I may have to take the Quilt Diva table runner apart and try this design. I usually try not to take things apart, but in this case, I may have to make an exception to the rule! I have enough squares from this collection to make another runner, so that is my project for today. Now I need to go get this one listed on Etsy.
I have finally gotten back to my rag quilting! Here is my first finished project in a long time. This baby lovie is made from Moda's All You Need is Love fabric squares. I'm going to list it on Etsy. There will be more pictures there.
We had stormy weather yesterday morning and again last night. Not too much rain here, but I couldn't be on the computer. I did get started on another project using Moda fabric. I had it laid out yesterday, and would change it around everytime I went into the room. Finally last night I sewed the first row of squares together, decided I didn't like it, and took them apart, and started all over again. I think I'm going to like this design better, but I'm going to look at it a few more times before I get started.
Darcy inspired me to try to take pictures of insects. I knew better than to try moving insects; this picture of a lightening bug sitting still is out of focus!
I got one of my hummingbirds, but I was too far away. They aren't as tame as they used to be.
We have more rain in the forecast for the next several days. Need to go out and look around. I moved some nasturtiums yesterday; one looks really good but the other two are going to need some TLC.
I have gotten two leads on possible jobs, so that is good. I'll keep you posted!
Now to get my baby lovie listed on Etsy!
Here's a picture of the custom order pillow covers that I have been working on for a long time. I am really happy about the way they turned out.
I took some cool pictures this morning of leaves with dew on them. I went out early, before the sun came out and the wind picked up. I'll post a couple of my favorites.
When I took this picture of a single dandelion yesterday, I knew the ants where there, but I couldn't see the stamens. when I was editing, and looked at it and wondered what in the world all those brown curly things were. I printed it at 6 x 8, and it is amazing. I would love to see it at 8 x 10. I may have to order one from Snapfish.
I listed these raggy knit place mats on Etsy last night. I ate too much bread yesterday; didn't feel up to doing very much. Did get a lot of computer work done.
I think I finally caught up with all my vox neighbors. Sorry if I missed you. After awhile, I couldn't remember which days I had read and which days I had missed.
I had a lot of fun with these place mats. I made them by cutting strips of fabric about 3/8 inch wide. Each new strip is just tied on to the end of the last strip. The knotted ends are an important part of the design. Each row is knitted, so the pattern is easy. I tryed to make complete rows of each color without leaving all the knots at the edges. Some of the strips were only four or five inches long, and some were long enough to go all the way across. The colors are mostly pastels, with just a few brights and darks for contrast.
Two of my fancy iris are blooming this morning. Need to go take a few pictures! Later.
