I love this picture. I'm not sure if it is some kind of daisy or not. It came up from seed, so I don't have a clue. But it is amazing. All the stamens around the edge of the center are orange. It is a little hard to see at this size, but fantastic when you blow it up.
Back to updating. We spent Friday at our son's house so all the men could work on the deck. The rest of us watched kids and visited. I didn't get any good photos. We went to the fireworks display that night. I tried to take some pictures but I was too far away and I need a tripod.
Saturday was just another day in the country. I thought my computer was dead. I spent all day just trying to get on line. I did pick another batch of green beans and move some more flowers around. I had planted some petunia seed really late and they are just now getting big enough to transplant.
It was cloudy this morning, so I was able to get a few good pictures. I was afraid that is was going to be too windy, but at least some of them turned out pretty good. I had left my computer turned on last night since it was working, but this morning it wouldn't do anything, so I finally took a chance and turned it off. Lo and behold, when I turned it back on it took forever to scan but now it seems to be working fine. I've been working on another Moda table runner and I should have it finished today, too. I'm going to try to load a series of pictures of the daisies and some more daylillies. You need need to click on them to enlarge them.
Welcome to July, everyone! Here is the best of my series of hummingbird shots from yesterday. I'm going to have to try to get a little bit closer. I probably need to wait until later in the day so there isn't so much contrast with the bright background. They were really active when I took this shot. They drink 3/4 cup of sugar water every day. I had to refill the feeder before dark last night.
This small table runner is my latest project using Moda fabrics. I like the idea of using the colors around the edges with the white squares in the center. I may have to take the Quilt Diva table runner apart and try this design. I usually try not to take things apart, but in this case, I may have to make an exception to the rule! I have enough squares from this collection to make another runner, so that is my project for today. Now I need to go get this one listed on Etsy.
Every day I think I'm going to run out of things to that pictures of, but I always manage to find something. These dark red flowers grow on a rather tall plant without many leaves. I don't know what it is, but the color is striking.
I finished another Moda project tonight. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
No rain again today. It is starting to get dry. I watered plants this morning and again this afternoon. Haven't gotten out the hose and sprinkler yet, but will have to if it doesn't rain on Thursday.
Hubby walked down to the lake a couple of times today, but no action. At least he doesn't have to mow the grass so often. He still doesn't have his mower fixed. He had to borrow on last week. The grass is still soft and green. I love to walk barefoot in it.
I did manage to get one fairly good photo of my hummingbirds this afternoon. I next to crop it down because I wasn't close enough.
I was thinking baby blanket when I started making this project using the Prairie Paisley collection from Moda. I used off-white flannel for the backing and didn't use any batting. But then when I was working on it, I decided that it would make a nice table topper or table mat, especially on a small wicker table. It is 24 inches square. It was so dark and cloudy this morning that I had to use flash to get the picture, so I'm going to wait until I can take pictures in natural light to list it on Etsy.
Darcy, this one is your fault! I went outside this morning even though it was raining very lightly to take a picture of the flowers on this weird plant that came back up in my garden this year. It is huge and ugly, but I decided to give it the benefit of doubt until it bloomed. Well, this morning it has a couple of rather small yellow blooms. I took a picture but they were out of focus. On my way to the end of the flower bed, I saw this spider, so I decided to see what I could do with him. I forgot to turn off the flash so he was rather washed out. So I decided to play around with saturation and contrast and color to see what I could come up with. The detail is still washed out, but I like it.
We got rain about 3:00 this morning, and another shower just now. Glad I went out and moved some plants last night even though it was hot and I missed the first part of my favorite show.
I need to get my desk cleaned off and get my bag packed. I'm off to the city for a couple of days. Later!
I have finally gotten back to my rag quilting! Here is my first finished project in a long time. This baby lovie is made from Moda's All You Need is Love fabric squares. I'm going to list it on Etsy. There will be more pictures there.
We had stormy weather yesterday morning and again last night. Not too much rain here, but I couldn't be on the computer. I did get started on another project using Moda fabric. I had it laid out yesterday, and would change it around everytime I went into the room. Finally last night I sewed the first row of squares together, decided I didn't like it, and took them apart, and started all over again. I think I'm going to like this design better, but I'm going to look at it a few more times before I get started.
Darcy inspired me to try to take pictures of insects. I knew better than to try moving insects; this picture of a lightening bug sitting still is out of focus!
I got one of my hummingbirds, but I was too far away. They aren't as tame as they used to be.
We have more rain in the forecast for the next several days. Need to go out and look around. I moved some nasturtiums yesterday; one looks really good but the other two are going to need some TLC.
I have gotten two leads on possible jobs, so that is good. I'll keep you posted!
Now to get my baby lovie listed on Etsy!
I was taking pictures this evening for this week's Photo Quest. This one doesn't meet the qualifications exactly, but I liked it anyway. It is somewhat distorted by the resizing. It was taken in front of a window with no flash.
I didn't do any quilting today. I was fighting with a bad headache all day, and it was winning!
I finished this pot holder last night. I made this one a little bit different. It has an appliqued star on a plain denim field on the other side. It will be on Etsy soon.
I received my order from JoAnn's today, so now I have the white flannel I need to finish the Moda baby lovie that I started a long time ago.
Need to clean house tomorrow. Two of our sons and their families are coming out on Sunday. I want to finish my camp orders so I can put that mess away. It is spread out all over one end of the dining room table. My fabric strip knitting is spread out on the other end, but I can put it in a bag and get it out again without loosing my place.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in my neighborhood and on Vox!
I took my camera outside after dinner tonight to see if I could capture a bit of spring. The blooms on our nineteen year old flowering crabapple tree just opened up today. It is really pretty. It was also nice to see that is was full of bees.
This red bud tree is about 10 years old, but it isn't very tall. The blooms aren't open yet, but I like the way the light is hitting the tip of this branch.
I worked on by new Moda lovie this afternoon, but I ran out of white flannel for the backing and batting. So tonight I started on a couple of dresses for my twin granddaughters who will soon be three years old. I'm trying to change the pattern. It has ties on the shoulders, and I want to have tabs that button. I'm not good at all about figuring out how to do something like this. It's cut out now, so we'll see!
I'm not sure what possessed me to make potholders yesterday, but here are the two I like best. I made three, and they are all listed on Etsy. The other side of each of them has an appliqued heart. The each have two layers of batting and two layers of denim in addition to the appliques, so they are quite thick. I clipped the edges of each side before I stitched them together.
I made another note card with the retro buttons yesterday, too. It's also listed on Etsy.
We had a shower of rain this morning. I carried some of my plants out to the porch while it was raining. Hope we don't get any more freezing weather! It is beautiful now. I need to go out and get some fresh air, then I'm going to start on another baby lovie. I got some more Moda fabric from Cajunelle. I'm excited to see what I can come up with!
Hi! Happy Easter!
I can't believe I have been out of touch for so long. My computer has been acting silly again. It hasn't stopped me from quilting, thank goodness.
Yes, we had snow this morning. Thank goodness the Easter bunny colors his eggs! It is all gone now, but it was interesting to watch this morning.
Here is one of the table runners I finished last week. Each large denim square has a rag quilted appliqued flower. It is mostly pink, blue, and yellow, and it is listed on Etsy.
Here's my latest table runner. I used some of the Quilt Diva line by Amy Bradley designs for Moda. Very colorful! I really had to step out of my comfort zone, but I like it. I used 5 inch squares to maintain more of the impact of the colors. Check out the Etsy listing for more pictures. I spent 3 hours Friday night trying to upload my pictures, and finally gave up. I think I am going to have to look into getting high speed internet service. Right now, I just can't justify the expense. One of the prices we pay for living a bit off the beaten path. It used to be, if someone came down our road, we knew they were coming to our house. It isn't that way any more, but we still get up and look every time a vehicle goes by. Sometimes, the only traffic all day is the mailman!
We had our family get together yesterday at our son's house. Everyone was there except our oldest granddaugher who had to work, and our daughter and family who live in Texas. It was just barely warm enough for the kids to go out and hunt for Easter eggs.
Time to go do some quilting!
