Just as I was opening this page, I remember that I didn't post my Photo Quest entry to the group page. Whew! Almost missed my chance to be rich and famous. LOL
I was concentrating so hard on trying different settings this morning when shooting for Photo Quest that I didn't even notice that Paya had gotten into one of the shots. It does give a bit of perspective on how big the wood pile is because she is a medium sided dog. I should say wood stack instead of wood pile. There are actually two more rows behind this one. Lots of good fires this year. Last year we heated our house entirely with wood.
Tried a couple of new recipes for supper tonight. I make a salmon loaf. I mostly followed the directions, except I added a can of tuna, and I used sour cream instead of milk. Yumm! Then I roasted some green beans. They were pretty good. We are all getting tired of plain boiled green beans.
I worked on another top for my granddaughter today, too. It's all finished except for the hem. Should be able to finish it up tomorrow. I have to go to work early, so it won't be so late when I get home. Guess I'll take my camera. My have time to be a little bit creative. I've started making a book with pages in it of the cakes that we can do. It has really helped when customers come in to order a cake for an adult or an older teen. Most of our kits are for kids.
I ordered a compact camera for myself so it would be easier to slip in my pocket at work. They called today and said that it had come it, so I will have a new toy to play with tomorrow. :-)
This is what the sky looked like tonight from my car in the Walmart parking lot. Rather interesting, I thought. Since I didn't get any cake pictures today and knew I would be tired by the time I got home, I pulled out my camera and shot a few frames.
We weren't too busy today. I put in another order for kits and things since the next weekday I will work will be next Wednesday. The new kit we got today was "American Idol". We'll have to see if it is popular, but I think it will be with young teens, and you can use it for boys or girls. I'm going to get "Camp Rock" in next week, too. At one time we had a lot of requests for it. It is really hard to tell what people are going to buy. We don't have enough storage room to stock all of the kits that are available. We try to keep it to about 100. Plus Walmart is introducing what they call "Signature Cakes" that are shaped cakes with special plastic pieces to make them look like castles, etc. Hope I don't have to make too many of them. Doesn't look like something I'm going to get excited about. Plus it's a bunch of big boxes that I have to find a place to store. I did get some little plastic fairy lay-ons today that I think will sell. I like doing creative cakes, but I enjoy the ordering and the organizing, too. I even got motivated to get a storage box for the odds and ends of papers, etc. that I tend to have laying all around my desk. Ordereing is a little bit like a chess game. You have to anticipate what cakes are going to be ordered two weeks in advance and make sure you have enough kits on hand. We are pretty well stocked right now, except for a couple of different ones, plus we will have the kits I ordered today delivered by Wednesday or Thursday next week.
Here is a picture of the picture that I gave my hubby for Father's Day. It's one of our granddaughters that I took the last time they were here. I doubled matted it in off-white and framed it in black. It really looks nice.
We had a very nice day yesterday. Our two youngest kids and their families came out, along with our oldest granddaughter. Our youngest daughter and her husband brought their two "babies", their Siberian huskie puppies. We had a lovely relaxed afternoon. I had made a potato salad in the morning, and some really yummy cheesecake bars. I put some baked beans in the crockpot, and we had leftover pasta salad and black bean salad. Our son grilled some chicken and hot dogs, and we used paper plates. It was great!
Then, after everyone left, I got out my new tripod and tried it out. It's pretty cool. I'll post some of the shots for this week's Photo Quest.
First, one more photo from Sunday. Here are the proud parents with both of their boys, plus grandma and grandpa.
I haven't had my camera out of the house since Sunday. Too busy! I worked on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, I had a doctor's appointment (my blood pressure is down), and went on down to the site where camp will be to unload the truck with most of the food. Another truck with fresh produce and milk is coming today. We are leaving today, late this afternoon, so we can get settled in and get the kitchen cleaned up before the campers arrive Saturday afternoon. We serve our first meal Saturday evening.
There is no internet service down where we are going, and I don't have a laptop anyway, so I will be out of touch for a week. I remembered to set my vacation setting for my Etsy shop. Now I just need to go water my plants and pack my bags.
Have a good week, everyone! I'll try to catch up when I get home.
I love these little sycamore leaves, plus they are down close enough to the ground that I can reach them. It was overcast today, but I wanted to take some pictures anyway.
I went to town this morning to do my food order for camp. One more big job out of the way. Still have to order the milk and fresh produce, but I can do that over the phone.
Stopped by the school where I used to work for a few minutes. I worked with the same three people for 10 years, so I still feel close to them. I dropped by while they were on their lunch break, so we could just sit and talk. It was nice.
One of the funniest things today happened while I was outside with my camera. I even got a picture, but it didn't come out very good. One of our granddaughter's dogs who has only been here since Friday, got up on her hind legs and started drinking water out of the bird bath. Why did she do that? How did she know there was water up there? I had just put fresh water in their water dish. It really did look funny.
I put out one hummingbird feeder today. They should be coming back soon. Things have really grown in the past week. The radishes are twice as big as they were, and we have potatoes coming up. Not much in the flower bed to take pictures of, however, the iris are sending up big buds. It won't be long now!
It started raining here about an hour and a half ago, and it's still coming down. Hope all three dogs are on the porch. I have to work tomorrow, then I'm off until next Monday. I've got a set of place mats that are ready to be quilted, and I started another table runner. I'm going to rag quilt this one.
I love the way leaves come out on a sycamore tree. Aren't these buds just the coolest things?
We were gone all day today. Got up and went to 8:00 am Mass this morning, 'cause I had to read. Figured out after we got home that I must have read the wrong intentions! Hopefully, no one will remember.
Then we went down the road about an hour, and went to Mass again 'cause my hubby's neice's son was making his First Communion. Another son had been confirmed yesterday, so they had a family party this afternoon. It was great to see everyone. I got to spend some quality time with my newest grandson. Didn't even get my camera out of the case. Lovely weather, good food, and great people. Perfect! It was late before we got home, so I need to get to bed. Have to be at work at 7:00 in the morning. Later!
No new photos today. It was too windy. Everything checked out okay this morning at the dermatologist. I've had several places that had to be checked for cancer, but today everything looked good. My hubby went to, but he has to have one biopsy of a place on his shoulder. He also got new scrips for meds for his feet, scalp, and arms. He has to go back in 14 days. He has had several pre-cancerous lesions treated, and may have more on his arms. He has to get the skin in better shape before she can even tell what's going on this time.
It was warm today, 60 degrees, but the wind was too sharp to enjoy being outside, and everything was blowing too much to take pictures. Guess I should have tried my action setting, but I can't stand to be out when it is windy. So you are just going to have to settle for some more shots that I edited last night.
Here's that white tulip again. This time I just converted it to a negative image and played around a little bit with the brightness and contrast. The rain drops are real.
I decided to play around with the black tulip a little bit more. The first edits were made in Irfanview. Then I moved it over to Microsoft Picture It! to soften the edges and add the embossing. Here is the results.
I'm doing some serious work on my to do list today. I have to go to work tomorrow, so today is the last day I have to take care of all my chores. So far I've watered my plants and made an appointment with the dermatologist. I've had a small cancer removed from my ear, so I need yearly check ups. My last load of laundry is in the washer, but I still need to balance checkbooks and pay bills. Yuck! At least I can do it sitting here at the computer.
