This my my version of a cake with teal, lime green, and brown flowers. It didn't get picked up before I left on Monday so I'm not sure if this is really what they wanted or not. But I'm happy with it. Brown flowers are hard, but I like the way these turned out.
This is my favorite cake from Monday. My directions on this one was yellow and peach roses. I made another one almost exactly like this one to put out in the cake case.
We had a cloudy, cool, windy day today. I didn't go outside except to water the dogs.
I spent most of the day today cooking. I did take a nap and wash a couple of loads of clothes, and catch up on some computer stuff. I finally took time to check my iStock account, and was happy to note that I had sold another photo. It was one of the tomato worm from last year. I haven't uploaded any photos in a long time. Too time consuming. I should go down to my sewing room and do some sewing tonight, but I don't know if I will make it. I will more than likely go to bed early. There is always tomorrow!
Today was a wonderful, perfect fall day. Warm and sunny. And I didn't have to go to work until this afternoon. So this morning I was able to do some cooking and some sewing and after lunch, I grabbed my camera to go out and see what I could find. I really like the way the sky fades from a dark blue at the top of the photo to a very pale blue at the bottom. No editing, except cropping.
Most of the leaves have already fallen off of the sycamore trees. This one is hanging on for another day.
Found this fellow lurking on the side of a tree. Does anyone know what kind of insect he is?
Most of our fall color has faded and most of the trees have lost their leaves but our bald cypress is just getting started. There is a shallow layer of needles under the tree, but the color in the ones left on the tree is stunning. In the sun, they look like polished copper.
I only worked five hours today, which was okay by me. I'm working on the sleeves of my granddaughter's dress now, so I may be able to finish it this weekend. I go in to work at 11:00 tomorrow, so I'll have some time, but I will probably spend most of it cooking. Hubby loves mashed cauliflower, so I'll probably do that, at least. Looks like we will be busy tomorrow. We have a whole stack of orders and one of the girls is out with H1N1. Sunday looks pretty crazy, too, but I'm not scheduled to work. I'm hoping for another nice day so I can get out with my camera again.
I didn't take pictures of anything today, so I went back to the same day (or close to it) last year to see what I was doing. For some reason, I had made three apple pies! Don't remember why I would have done that. Anyway, I thought this photo was interesting.
They look good enough to eat, don't they? I'm sure I did, too, unless I made them to take somewhere.
They were expecting some big wigs at the store today, so I had to spit and polish the cake case, and fill it up. That took about three hours. Then I spent the rest of the day making packages of cupcakes with Halloween decorations. Some of them were pretty clever if not original. I ended up with about 75 6 count packages, enough to fill up an end cap. That is the first time I have done an entire display by myself. If I do some more tomorrow, I'll have to remember to take pictures.
Have to be back at work early in the morning, so I've got to get to bed early again tonight. Sounds like we will be getting more rain. We had a good shower this afternoon. Toodles!
I didn't take any cake pictures yesterday. Mostly cakes for orders. A couple of them were cute, but I was by myself so I was busy.
I'm home today and it is rainy and windy, so I'm not in the mood to go out and take any photos, so I'm playing around with my last set of dahlia photos. Did a little cropping and color, brightness, and contrast adjustment. I'll see if you can tell the difference.
I think I like this one best. Somehow it was in the shade, and since I only have one bloom, one of the dogs must have been helping me out!
I've got company coming this weekend, so I must do some housecleaning today. Boo! Hiss!
Finally picked up my new camera on Saturday night. Took it with me on Sunday so I could read the book, see what it could do, only to discover that I had forgotten the battery! So it was this afternoon before I got camera and battery together to see what would happen. Since I had just taken so dahlia photos on Friday, I went back out this evening to try again. We had a lot of wind on Monday that blew dead leaves into the flower bed.
I didn't get any sewing done today, but I did do a lot of laundry, paperwork, etc. I even did a bit of housecleaning! It's back to work tomorrow. Toodles!
I didn't take my camera out of it's case today, so I am going to have to recycle some shots. That shouldn't be a problem, since I usually take 30 or so each time I go out. Let's see what I can find in the library.
I had forgotten that I had these pink petunias last year. They still look pretty good. Most of the ones I have this year are already over the hill.
Got caught up on my paperwork and laundry today. Also put some photos back in my photo albums that I had pulled out over the years for one project or another. That was a major undertaking! Now I just need to get some labels on the backs of the albums so I know what years each one covers. I looked for baby pictures of my oldest granddaughter, but didn't find hardly any. Guess I was too busy to take many. Cleaned off my sewing table, so now I'm ready to tackle another project. I've been away from my sewing for awhile now, but I'm ready to give it a go again.
One of my photos of the nightshade flower was accepted by iStock today. Yeah!
I only had one cake order to do today, so I was able to take my time. It has the effect of having lots of flowers even though they are only rose buds. This one is sprinkle with sugar crystals, like big flakes of sugar.
I spent the rest of the day making cakes to put in the cake case that were examples of some of the designs that we can do. I really like the way this one turned out. It looks like stained glass. It will be interesting to see how the colors hold up in the cake case, if it lasts that long. Most of the time, the lights in the case cause the colors to fade.
Bedtime already. Later!
It has been a long time since I took my camera out in my own backyard. I still am amazed at the striking results I get when I apply the watercolor filter to the petunias. These purple ones especially.
My zinnias are still pretty, too. Most of them got blown over in the last wind storm we had, but some of them are still standing. I'm going to plant more of them next year. The colors are so bright and they are so easy to grow.
Here is my treasure for tonight. This is really a weed called night shade, but the flower is fantasic!
I was in serious need of some camera therapy on Sunday. I hadn't taken any photos in my garden for ages. We had a wind storm sometime that blew down most of my zinnias. Here's one that survived.
It was after 10:00 Sunday morning when I got outside, but there was still a lot of dew, and the four-o-clocks were still open. I really like the watercolor look with the star shape in the center.
I took some black and white shots, too. This four-o-clock is growning under a tree, but a ray of sunlight was shining on this one blossom.
While I was on the computer Saturday night, it suddenly died. I was tired, so I went to bed without trying anything. I tried to bring it back to life on Sunday with no luck whatsoever. So it was off to the computer shop this morning. Actually, I had to wait until my lunch break, but I was able to drive to the shop, get my computer repaired, and drive back to work and still have half an hour to eat my lunch! Plus it didn't cost me a dime. I love happy endings!
I made a couple of camera worthy cakes today, but I forgot to take my camera out of my bag. I'll try again tomorrow.
