I worked today, so no time for pictures. I did make a unique cake this afternoon, but I had forgotten to take my camera with me today. I'll have to make another one tomorrow. We received three new kits in today for new Disney designs. I'll have to try them out to see if I like them or not. One of them is iCarly which we have gotten several requests for.
No real news on the medical front, but it looks like my hubby is leaning toward keeping the quality of life that he has now and taking a chance on living for at least a few more years. He read a lot of information today that our daughter had given him, and all of it regarding the operation was depressing.
Since I didn't take any photos today, I decided to go back to this time last year and see what I was doing. In addition to making pot holders and table runners, I was still outside taking pictures. This is an edited version of a spider's egg sack. Last year I took lots of pictures of spiders and praying mantis, but I hardly saw any of them this year.
It's in to work early again tomorrow morning, so I'd best get myself off to bed. 5:30 comes early for me. There should be three of us, but I think someone is going to have to help the donut people, so that will slow us down. We made most of the Friday cakes today, so we should be able to make a big dent in the Saturday orders tomorrow. I'll still try to get a couple of pictures. Toodles!
I have really missed posting my meager thoughts and activities (such as they are) on my blog. I have also missed going out with my camera. So I'm doing both today, and making you sit though it! LOL
This is the table that is out on my screened in porch. Not a necessarily attractive arrangement, but I liked the way sun was slanting in.
I still have a few petunia plants on the south side of the house that haven't given up. The leaves are protecting them from freezing.
Here's some of the leaves that have collected in the bird bath. We live on the edge of a rise, so all of the leaves blow out of our yard. The wind does the raking for us, thank goodness!
Time to go fix dinner. I'm going to try meatloaf tonight. Hope I can get it mushed up enough that hubby can eat it!
I didn't take any cake pictures yesterday. Mostly cakes for orders. A couple of them were cute, but I was by myself so I was busy.
I'm home today and it is rainy and windy, so I'm not in the mood to go out and take any photos, so I'm playing around with my last set of dahlia photos. Did a little cropping and color, brightness, and contrast adjustment. I'll see if you can tell the difference.
I think I like this one best. Somehow it was in the shade, and since I only have one bloom, one of the dogs must have been helping me out!
I've got company coming this weekend, so I must do some housecleaning today. Boo! Hiss!
Here's my first White Balance series. All were taken with the portrait setting in macro mode. I changed the White Balance on each one in this order from left to right: Auto, Day Light, Cloudy, Tungsten, Flourescent, Flourescent H, Underwater, and Custom. It is hard to tell any difference in the first three. The pinks are more vivid in the last one. It was foggy this morning with lots of natural light.
I walked from my porch to my garden for the second series of my potato patch. These were taken with the landscape setting in normal mode. I took them all from exactly the same place. The only change is the White Balance which I changed the same way I did for the first series.
In this series, I do think the third one with the white balance adjusted for cloudy skies is a little bit better.
This was a fun Photo Quest, and I also learned how to batch edit. Yeah!
Just a couple of more photos from Texas. This one isn't very good of Iva, but you can see her "wedding veil". Actually, this one is just a leftover piece of tulle tucked under a head band, but it was enough to give me the idea to gather the edge of the tulle and attach it to a wide headband with Velcro. It really did work well. I wasn't sure if the Velcro would stick to the gathered tulle, but it did.
It was beautiful and warm on Friday, but cool and cloudy on Saturday. We didn't go out at all. I do have some shots of the girls having lots of fun doing all kinds of things inside, so I'll try to post some more later.
We left a little after noon today, but it was after 4:00 before we got home. We went from spring back to winter today. It was in the 'teens, and there is snow on the ground. I need to get to bed because I have to go to work tomorrow. I haven't started unpacking my suitcase! It is good to be home.
This is one of my favorite pictures of Alena. She looks so cute with this headband/tulle thing, sort of like a flapper. This is another piece of tulle that she had me tuck under a headband, and then she wanted me to put a flower in it. The result was this knot above her ear. Sorry I cut off the side of her face. It is hard to get three year olds to stand still.
It is going to be hard to get out in the weather tomorrow after being where it was warm for a week. It will take a few days to get used to it again!
Wow! I had a busy day today in Texas and it didn't include on minute of television.
I didn't set my alarm this morning, because the girls are usually up by 6:00. This morning they slept until 7:30! I thought that I still had enough time to get them to school at 9:00, but when I looked at my notes, they were supposed to be at school by 8:30. It was then 8:25. Needless to say, they were late.
I stopped by Hobby Lobby on my way home to pick up some supplies to fix some of their princess costumes. They have several, including two new ones that I got for them on Sunday. Last night I fixed Jasmine. Today I worked on Belle until it was time to pick them up from school. No TV in the room where I was sewing.
One of the twins, "I", had her Sleeping Beauty dress on within minutes of walking in the door. Then they both ate a snack and wanted to watch a movie. Unfortunately, they wanted to watch Sleeping Beauty, which was broken and wouldn't play. I finally convinced them to watch Cinderella, and within five minutes, "I" was asleep on the couch. She didn't take a nap yesterday, so I'm sure she was tired. "A" was tired, too, but she wanted her "rings" and we could only find four. She thinks she needs six or more! After an hour or so of stalling/looking, I gave up and got out the secret stash that her Mom keeps for emergencies. This was getting to be an emergency! Grammy was about to go crazy.
With three or four rings on each finger, she ate dinner, then laid down on the couch and promptly fell asleep. She did let me take her fairy wings off. She was wearing her Snow White dress. Those dresses look to me like they would be itchy, but they won't wear anything under them.
So now they are both asleep on the couch and it will be their bedtime soon. Help!
I'll try to find a picture or two to post.
This may be the only picture I get of "I" with real clothes on. She usually puts on one of her costumes as soon as she gets up. She is also wearing her fairy wings that I "brought" for them. Actually their mother picked them up earlier that day so I could "give" them to them.
This is the way she looks most of the time, although the newness of the fairy wand and wings is starting to wear off. But not the costumes!
This one is of "I". She wears regular clothes more often than her sister does. Thank goodness she also always wears a necklace, so if I'm not sure which one is which, that is my clue.
Here is a better picture of "A". The humidity is so low down here that their lips are chapped.
Here's the drama queen with some of her jewelry. She never met a braclet or a ring that she didn't like. She wears the same necklace all the time, so she can put on all of her stuff by herself. She does tend to take it off and leave it in odd places, which is why we still can find the rings she had yesterday. Guess I'd better stop by the store and pick up a few extras tomorrow!
Last picture! I really like this one. "A", with her leotard, tutu, and fairy wings telling her mom goodbye on Saturday.
I didn't take any pictures today. They go to gymnastics tomorrow. They don't have to be there until 11:30. Maybe I can get them there on time! I'll take my camera, too. It was fairly warm here today, but a bit windy.
No photos tonight. I've taken several since I arrived down here yesterday afternoon, but I can't figure out how to get them from my camera card to my daugher's laptop. May have to try her desk top.
It was 1 above zero when we left MO Friday morning. This afternoon we were outside with just our long sleeved shirts on. It was still 70 degrees late in the afternoon. I think I could get used to this!
I'll go upstairs and try the other computer. I tryed taking some shots out the window of the airplane, and I would like to see how they turned out.
I can't believe it has been 11 days since I posted anything! Well, yes, I can believe it. I have been really busy!
This picture was taken just before Christmas. Our son came by with his three kids. This is his 20 month old daughter. She is a sweetie!
We had a fantastic Christmas! Plenty of food, but not too much. I manage to not overeat, for the first time ever! The weather was decent, no snow. It was really warm yesterday when we had 38 people at our house, but it was raining all the time, so no one could go outside. I was busy with food or babies all day so very few pictures.
It was hard to get back in the swing of things today at work. I had been home for three days in a row. We weren't busy today, so we were just doing whatever cakes to put in the cake case. How do you decorate a cake at the end of December? No one wants holiday or winter cakes anymore. It's too early for Valentine's Day. I tried making violets today, and also some chocolate roses. Another girl and I decorated about 26 cakes today by ourselves. We made quite a variety. It will be interesting to see what sells.
I work again tomorrow and the next day. I'm off on Wednesday. I will try to catch up with all of my neighbors then. It is bedtime now.
Hi, Everyone! Sorry I have been away so long. I had to go in to work on Saturday because someone called in sick. I got to decorate my first wedding cake. It wasn't perfect, but it did look nice.
I did decorate a cake last night that I am really proud of. It was a chocolate cake and I put chocolate icing on it, then decorated it with chocolate stems and leaves. I used leaves for a border around the top instead of the traditional borders. It was quite elegant.
I also did a free hand flag that I like, too. I didn't try to make it look exactly like a flag, just close enough that when you looked at it, you got the message. I took a cake with white icing, sprayed a corner blue then piped a few white stars. Then I sprayed the rest red, but not a solid red. It was more or less abstract stripes, then because the over spray didn't leave very much white, I took a bag of white icing with a small tip and added white lines in a free hand angled way. It was easier to do than it is to describe!
When I stepped out the door this morning, the sun was shining on this geranium and my hubby's boots.
I have been trying all summer to take a perfect picture of these pink petunias. I think this one is the best yet, and here it is the first week of November! I put the planter up on the porch so it wouldn't freeze.
I'm trying to come up with a good idea for a winter wedding cake? Any suggestions? We always have a wedding cake display, and they have ask me to come up with a new idea for this winter. The one we have now is chocolate with fall leaves. I would like to do pale blue with silver snow flakes, but we can't do silver, and snowflakes are really hard to make.
This is the best color we have around our house. I know what the name of the bush is, but I don't know how to spell it! Look how green the grass still is. It has clouded over already, so I'm not sure if I will get any more pictures or not. I have some interesting seed pods that I'm trying to shot, but it is hard to get the right angle.
I need to do laundry and such. I have to work for three days straight beginning tomorrow. I do get two days off in a row next week, including Sunday. That hasn't happened since the first weekend of September! Need to do some quilting today, too, and upload some more pictures to iStock.
Later!
I installed some new software on my computer tonight. I've been experimenting with the photo editing program. I didn't do anything to this wildflower except copy and resize. I'm going to have to spend a lot more time working with it to really know what I am doing!
I got one batch of crab apple jelly made this afternoon. It is a very labor-intensive project, but the results are worth it. We had to have several pieces of butter bread with jelly just to make sure it was edible! I worked on one more pan full of apples just to have a head start on tomorrow's batch. I wanted to get a picture of the jars sitting on the window sill of the kitchen, but my camera was upstairs and I was too tired to go get it. I would have made the effort, but I knew I would have another chance tomorrow.
My interview tomorrow is at 9:00 in the morning, so I may not get around to checking my email until after I get home. I'll need to leave the house by 8:00. It really doesn't take that long to get there, but I like to give myself a little wiggle room.
