Here's my latest quilted project - a little homespun handquilted angel. Her wings, face, and feet are handquilted. Her body and arms are machine quilted. She has French knot eyes and blushy cheeks and a perky homespun bow in her curly hair. I found this pattern while I was looking for a crochet hook this week, so I decided to make one. I may try to make some more, but I need more fusible interfacing. She is available on Etsy.
I need to go cook some fresh green beans and zucchini for lunch. Later!
More pictures of my compostions of my place mats. This is a new set that I finished last night. I've never tried to take a picture from the back side before. I need more focus on the place mats instead of the candle.
The place mats show up better in this shot. Each one is strip pieced by machine and has three rag quilted appliqued hearts. This set has a dark blue "border".
I had to take a few more shots of the bird's nest. This one is more straight down from the top. Turning off the camera flash makes the colors brighter and not so washed out.
Here's the place mats that I started on last week. I was in the kitchen most of yesterday afternoon. I made blueberry muffins, no bake chocolate cookies, and stir-fry. Then I finished these place mats. The homespun strips are pieced to a piece of Warm and Natural batting. Then I added a muslin backing before rag quilted the quilted patchwork hearts. Then I hand quilted the strips before adding the rag quilted "border". The reverse side looks nice, too. Take a look on Etsy.
I spent most of today trying to get my computer running again. My hard drive was so full that it wouldn't run any programs or let me load pictures, or anything. I did finish one of the little dresses I was making for the twins. I'll post a picture tomorrow. I also got out my menus that I am planning for camp. Last year I volunteered to spend a week helping in the kitchen at a camp for kids with cancer. I will need to get the food ordered in a couple of weeks. Camp is the first week of June.
We are supposed to get frost tonight. I moved most of my plants back inside already. Still have one planter to go. I have little radishes in the garden, but a little frost won't hurt them.
It was cool this morning, and a bit windy, but not bad. We lucked out again yesterday - no bad storms. We did get some more rain, and the biggest hail I've seen in a long time, but it didn't last long. The strangest thing was the two barn swallows who came up during the hail and were hanging onto the screens on our porch. My camera was too far away for me to get a picture.
Went to do some shopping this morning. Stopped by our sons house to wish his twins a happy first birthday, but they were taking a nap, so we took his almost 3 year old shopping with us. He was very good; we had to stop six different places. At Wal-Mart, he sat on the bench at the front of the store with "pa-pa". I wanted to buy some more flannel and batting a Wal-Mart, but the fabric department lady wasn't there the first time I went by, and by the time I came back, the sub lady was swamped and upset about the whole deal, so I just put my stuff back on the shelf.
I started working on a set of place mats yesterday that are multi-media, but I think they are going to be nice. I strip pieced homespun onto a batting base, stitched on a backing around the edges, machine appliqued patchwork hearts, then hand quilted along the strips. The final touch is a rag quilted "border". I have one finished, and about half of the strips sewn down on the second one.
I've started another project. I like to have something up here by my computer because it is so slow. I was cleaning off my sewing table one day and found a couple of counted cross stitch projects from who knows when, so I'm working on one of them. I know they aren't very creative, but I like the fact that they are square and perfect!
I'm not sure what possessed me to make potholders yesterday, but here are the two I like best. I made three, and they are all listed on Etsy. The other side of each of them has an appliqued heart. The each have two layers of batting and two layers of denim in addition to the appliques, so they are quite thick. I clipped the edges of each side before I stitched them together.
I made another note card with the retro buttons yesterday, too. It's also listed on Etsy.
We had a shower of rain this morning. I carried some of my plants out to the porch while it was raining. Hope we don't get any more freezing weather! It is beautiful now. I need to go out and get some fresh air, then I'm going to start on another baby lovie. I got some more Moda fabric from Cajunelle. I'm excited to see what I can come up with!
Here's my latest table runner. I wanted to list it on Etsy from the city because the pictures load so much faster with a broadband connection, but both of my daughter's computers where acting up, so I didn't get anything done. I have spent all evening uploading and downloading pictures. I got this listing finished, and the listing for a fabric note card that I made from the same fabrics, but when I tried to list the other two "quilted" fabric note cards, I finally had to give up. Guess I'll try again tomorrow. I may get to stay home now for a couple of days. I have an Easter table runner that I made last year that I will be listing on Etsy, plus I should be able to finish the one I started yesterday. Our electricity went off right after lunch yesterday, so I just packed up and went to the city thinking I could at least work on the computer! Ah, the plans of mice and men... It isn't that late, but I'm tired, so think I will call it a day. Later!
Here are the two other quilted note cards that I made yesterday. I'm pretty happy with the way the designs turned out. I stitched the fabrics onto a backing before I stitched them onto the card. I think I'm going to try to make some that are just a little bit smaller than the cards so it looks like they are "framed".
Here's my second attempt at fabric note cards. I do like the way it turned out. I would still like for the "grass" to show up a bit more. I do like the darker stitching down the center of the petals. All of it is stitched to a backing fabric, then stitched to the card. The stem is satin stitched.
I also made a couple of crazy quilted note cards. I will probably list them on Etsy. I may wait until I go back to the city tomorrow. Pictures load so much faster down there.
I've got lots of paper work to do today. Need to catch up on lots of stuff. Not my favorite thing to do. I'd rather be quilting! I want to try making little flannel lovies. I need to make a couple for birthday presents anyway. I have some satin that I'm going to try using as a backing fabric. Don't know how that is going to work.
